Title: " Fate of the Plains "
The Great Plains is the most overlooked and misunderstood region of North America. Stretching from Mexico to Canada and from the 100th meridian to the Rockies, the Plains make up one-fifth of the land mass of the contiguous United States, but have only two percent of its population. The story of the Great Plains has traditionally been a story of conflict between humanity and nature, a saga of our desire to bend the land to our use and the land's resistance to change. "Fate of the Plains" examines the Great Plains -- both past and present -- and shows how the people of the Plains are learning to live within the limits of this vast semi-desert.
