Title:   " Conversation with Eudora Welty "

Eudora Welty uses her perception of the distinct Southern character to explore the universal duality in human nature. As one of her characters puts it, mankind is involved in, and normally losing, a continuous battle between "our desires for love, safety, blind acceptance, communion, and our equally strong desires for separateness, danger, clear knowledge and individual and primal joy." In this conversation, Welty talks about her commitment to the region and the way in which she draws on it. She says she approaches writing as though she were sitting on the front porch on a hot night telling the tallest tales she could think of.
