Title:   " Pest Management "

The third lesson of the series discusses a concept called integrated pest management; a program that integrates the control techniques for weeds, diseases, insects and mites into the total cropping program. It is a business approach to protecting the crop against economic loss. Four basic pest management tools are discussed: choosing a hybrid variety of seed that has a resistance to disease and a tolerance to insects; planting crops on a planned rotation basis; early planting to give the corn a head start on pests; and pesticides. Many of the common pests and ways to determine their presence are shown.
