People and organizations develop unique perspectives and unwritten rules: a way to do things. The new buzzword describing these rules is paradigms. Specifically, paradigms are rules we take for granted: our most basic assumptions about how we live and work. Paradigms help us to evaluate and organize new information quickly. But paradigms can also have a limiting effect. Paradigms may be so deeply rooted, so unquestioned, that they can become barriers to our ability to see new opportunities. The "old way" of doing something may seem like the "only way." We can be blinded to new ideas, opportunities, and solutions. Understanding the influence of this paradigm effect is vital to progress and effective change.
