Title: " Neihardt on Creative Writing "
John Neihardt was valued in Nebraska and elsewhere not only because he was a good writer, but because he was the possessor of a great spirit and the holder of history, particularly the history of the Plains Indians. Neihardt counsels young writers to get acquainted with (if not marry their spirits to) the great and enduring literature that has come down to us. "And when you are working on that great book for which the impatient world has been waiting all these weary centuries, remember that there are many books in the world already, that a surprising number of them are really quite good, and that there is no need for hurry in producing another bad one."
